Why We

We are a family with an enormous love for a little boy who continues to shape our lives with the light he left behind.
Early riser. Wind chaser. Keeper of rocks and earth alive with the magic he unearthed. Luca's light was bold, and kind, adventurous and silly, strongly accident prone and present in a way that forced you to slow down, lie on your belly and find wonder in the ants and stardust in the dirt. He pulled you into the orbit of his endless energy, and you couldn't help but feel the thread of joy he would weave with one glimpse of his full-body grin and cheeky belly deep laugh. Stranger, friends, family - he was unfailingly full of more love to give than we could comprehend from his little body.
Live Like Luca has grown from our family mantra into a heart project — born from our loss, shaped by his life, and grounded in the belief that community is one of the greatest gifts we can offer one another through every season of life. To “Live Like Luca” is our reminder to live with intention, to love deeply, and to bring light wherever we can. We hope to create spaces and events that glimmer with that light, while finding ways to give back to the bereavement community and families who walk this impossible road after losing a child.
Luca is — and always will be — one of our greatest reasons for choosing to live with gratitude for the moments we're given. This very messy, uncertain, imperfectly human experience we are each gifted. While we can't change many of the paths we're placed on - especially those we would never choose to walk willingly, we can change little things along the way that make the journey warmer, softer, brighter, kinder, more bearable, and even beautiful, both for ourselves, and for others. Just like Luca did for us.
Our Impact & Future Goals
After losing Luca, we became acutely aware of how difficult it can be to navigate grief — and how much more difficult it can feel when the world around you doesn't quite know what to say, what to do, or how to make space for your loss.
We want to help change that.
Live Like Luca exists to create connection, kindness and practical support for families experiencing grief and loss, with a focus on families who have lost a child, while helping create a world where grief is welcomed into our communities rather than pushed into the shadows.
We don't have every part of that vision figured out yet, but this is our beginning.
We're starting with small, tangible things that can fill gaps in the bereavement spaces, alongside the beautiful, trusted organisations who are already making meaningful change.
What we're doing now
Our first major project is the Live Like Luca Tri-Tag Rugby Festival — a day centred on community, connection, fun and the things Luca loved most.
But the festival is about more than rugby. Funds raised through the festival will be directed towards a specific project supporting bereaved families experiencing pregnancy, infant and child loss. Our goal for this inaugural event is to turn the generosity surrounding the Live Like Luca Tri-Tag Rugby Festival into something tangible that reaches families when they need it most.

Going forward
As a family learning to live without the physical presence of our beautiful boy, Live Like Luca was founded to make a tangible difference to families who are living through the loss of a child. Our long-term aim is to identify the gaps, barriers and needs on this unfathomable journey families find themselves navigating, connect families with trusted organisations, resources and practical assistance; and develop, support and fund initiatives that respond to needs within the bereavement space. Through fundraising, partnerships, community events and direct action, we hope to strengthen the network of support available to bereaved families and create more opportunities for remembrance, connection and belonging.
While Live Like Luca was born from the loss of our precious Luca, we recognise that grief and loss will touch all of us in some form. We hope that the way Luca lived — with wholeheartedness, wonder, generosity and deep connection — can offer something to anyone learning to carry a loss of their own, whatever that loss may be. Our goal is to help make grief less lonely, more openly understood, and more compassionately supported.
